Affordable Beauty

Why is the cost of beauty so expensive? The exorbitant price of fancy makeup and hair care products increases year over year. The price associated with looking and feeling young and beautiful comes with a hefty cost that we often splurge on to attain. The beauty industry is booming as a $126 billion market that tends to prey on largely a woman’s insecurities. So how do you break the cycle of buying beauty products that you may not necessarily need? Well, the answer isn’t to just cut makeup out altogether. After all, makeup for a lot of folks isn’t just about giving into societal expectations of beauty! For a lot of individuals it’s fun, provides confidence, keeps skin protected, and allows one to showcase their sense of self-care. Therefore, it’s important to seek out products that won’t leave a dent in our wallets, especially when it’s something we use daily. There are a range of inexpensive makeup brands/products that offer amazing results as their luxurious and pricey counterparts. Here’s a list of top beauty brands that won’t exceed $20 and may be easily accessible in drugstores near you.

NYX

NYX — a great makeup brand that has a range of powders, pigments, liquids, creams and lip formulas to suit your everyday needs. Its wide selection of makeup rivals higher priced lines by offering amazing quality at cheap prices.

L.A. Girl

L.A. Girl — a great collection that offers a full range of brushes and formulas for varied complexions. Awesome eye, lip and nail colors that offer long wear for an affordable price.

BH Cosmetics

BH Cosmetics — an expansive collection that offers quality products like foundations, double-sided palettes and liquid lipsticks sure to fit your beauty needs!

Black Radiance

Black Radiance — an expansive line of makeup for especially people of color. From lip gloss to primers to setting products this line offers quality and affordable beauty for rich, deep skin tones.

ColourPop

ColourPop — a quality brand of products that matches innovation and affordability. Gorgeous shades, formulas and wear seen throughout the line, especially in their range of liquid lipsticks and Super Shock Shadows.

E.L.F.

E.L.F. — sophisticated and elegant luxury makeup at an affordable price. Great range of mineral-based makeup, professional tools, eyeliners and lipsticks.

Morphe

Morphe — while not as cheap as the lines listed above, Morphe is still affordable and offers a beautiful range of concealers, lip colors and eye shadow palettes. It’s collaboration with YouTubers Jaclyn Hill and James Charles has created stunning eye shadow palettes well worth the investment.

As an added bonus I’ll mention the Sephora Collection of beauty and skincare products that are simply amazing. The company makes it a point to charge no more than $20 for any of these products and they are all clean certified — meaning they’re all free of ingredients like sulfates, parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, mineral oil, and contain less than 1% synthetic fragrances. All of the products are made with 91–99% naturally derived ingredients — making them ideal for most skin types, including sensitive skin.

As a makeup lover, I can tell you it’s hard not to get swept up by new products, pretty packaging and brand appeal! However, it’s important to note that just because you purchased an item at a department store doesn’t mean its superior to something you could have purchased at a drugstore. Often times, what you’re paying for is the brand and packaging. Ultimately, it’s important to compare product ingredients and do a bit of research into the products true cost per ounce — this could help you save some major beauty bucks!
