In recent years theres been a rise in the amount of consumers we see spending countless amounts of money on nail care. At one point and time the only nerve racking decision that had to be made while at the salon was selecting the perfect color! Now, the shape of your nails is also one that takes great thought - especially since its been said to define the overall quality of your manicure. Whether you’re planning on getting acrylics or going the au natural route it’s important to consider both shape and color to end up with a manicure that you’ll absolutely love. To help you better understand the choices available I’ve compiled a list of the most popular nail shapes along with a list of popular polish brands that can help you accomplish your ideal manicure.

Round Shaped Nails — creates a soft and natural look thats easy to maintain. This shape mimics the curve of your cuticles and works best on nails that are short.

Almond Shaped Nails — elongated at the tip with a round base, this nail shape gets its name due to its similar appearance to an almond. This shape works best on medium to long nails since length is required for it to be noticeable.

Oval Shaped Nails — have sides that are filed straight while the top is softer with rounded edges towards the end. This look will create the appearance longer and slender fingers.

Square Shaped Nails — one of the most common nail shapes for nails and toes. This shape is created by filing all sides of the nail straight. This look tends to look great on natural and fake nails and is easy to maintain.

Squoval Shaped Nails — are similar to square shaped nails but with rounder edges. This shape suits any nail length and tends to work well on ingrown toe nails.

Stiletto Shaped Nails — this shape is a statement as it is both dramatic and high maintenance. This shape calls for super tapered sides, pointy centers and lots of length.

Ballerina Shaped Nails — (aka coffin shaped nails) are a hit among celebs and achieved by tapering sides with a straight edge across the top. This shape works best on long nails and tends to require major upkeep.

For a lot of folks the hardest part of getting their nails done is selecting a color! If you paint your own nails, not only is this an obstacle but selecting a nail polish brand can also come with some challenges.
